Botox

Botox (Botulinum toxin) is becoming a common non-surgical treatment being used for many different reasons. It’s better known though for being used by many celebrities to prevent or remove wrinkles. The toxin is actually one of the most poisonous naturally occurring substances found in the world, so obviously when it is being used in non medical businesses, there is the occasional problem.

Botox is usually injected around the eyes to eliminate of wrinkles, as well as the forehead and around the mouth. Side effects which can occur are the muscles of the mouth or eyes looking droopy-this is called Dysphasia, or it can go the other way where the patient has a frozen look upon their face with no expression- facial Paralysis.

When injected, the Botox can sometimes affect your eye sight if the procedure is not carried out properly, causing double vision or other visual problems. Same goes for the mouth and neck area, if injected inaccurately it can cause problems eating, swallowing and speaking. Other side effects of Botox are nausea, flu-like symptoms, facial pain, and a twitching of the eye.

The most important thing about Botox is that it is becoming too common and the fact that non-medical beauty therapists can inject such a poisonous substance into your face is a great risk for you. I advise you to always try and see somebody who is a qualified cosmetic doctor. Botox can go wrong and somebody qualified and professional would know how to deal with this, and give you after care that you need.

When diets become dangerous

Every woman wants the figure of Cheryl Cole, but let’s face it, that takes a lot of hard work! Sometimes it seems, before we set off for our holidays, the best thing to do to lose weight quickly is to do extreme dieting. However, I’ve been doing some research and there are some very unhealthy diets out there, some which are popular and well known.

The Atkins diet, known for its theory, that if you cut out carbohydrates completely you will shed your weight in no time. Yes this is true, although by doing this you are causing yourself a lot of health problems. Some such as a change in skin tone, feeling nauseous, and the amount increase in protein without carbs leads to metabolic disorders. Also where the body no longer gains carbohydrates it starts to create substitute fats and these overload the liver, heart and blood vessels. Another major factor for women is that there chances of getting pregnant will drop by 20%.

Having a specific low fat diet where you cut out foods such as fish, butter, nuts and other daily foods can help you drop about 6lbs in one week. Nevertheless, this too can result in infertility or urogenital disorders due to lack of omegas 3 and 6.

The ‘one food’ diet, where you eat only one type of food for a week to rapidly lose weight. The most popular food I’ve seen is Grapefruit, but it can be done with any low calorie foods. You can eat as much as you want but it can only be that food. The problems with this though are that you are seriously lacking in any other nutrients meaning bones become fragile, and your immune system weakens. Also research has found that the person can develop an allergy from that particular food after the diet.

The advice I bring to you, although you may not want to hear it, is to join the gym after Christmas and work at it until summer and you'll be just as good as Mrs Cole I'm sure. Eat healthy, making sure you have your five a day, but don’t panic if you treat yourself every once and a while. Crash diets are dangerous and can affect you in so many ways, as we have discovered. Stick to the gym ladies!

Would you opt for plastic surgery?

If somebody offered you the chance to have cosmetic surgery, would you? Today we are surrounded by ‘perfect’ celebrities, most of them having a little helping hand by the surgeon. In today’s society the need for perfection is increasing, and we’re seeing that even young girls, who have perfectly natural, youthful bodies, still want to alter them. I went to Canterbury Christchurch University, where the ages of girls usually range from 18-23, to see if they would opt for going under the knife.

I asked the girls: If you could have plastic surgery, would you? And what would you get done?

Becca Freeman, aged 18 said, ‘I really don’t know probably would never go through with it but if I did, I guess boob job, need some more down there!’

Claire Billdon, aged 20 said, ‘I would love, love, love to have lipo. I aim to get that in a few years’.

Emily Emmet, aged 20 said, ‘Never. It’s not right. Everyone is too fake these days.’

Fran Dyre, aged 22 said, ‘When I’m older I would have things lifted. But I would never want to change my appearance.’

These were just a few answers I received, but it is true, most of you girls would do it. Although we know it can be a very dangerous thing to do, people are still paying thousands of pounds to get it done. I am a strong believer that self acceptance is what makes us happy and sometimes if you really aren’t happy with a part of your body then you should have the option to alter it. But the point of this blog is, do you really need cosmetic surgery? Why join this new society that expects nothing but perfection. We can make ourselves just as beautiful (whilst still looking like ourselves) with makeup tips, hair styles and a good diet with plenty of exercise...and then eventually grow old gracefully!

Topshop do Make up?!

Topshop not only do the latest high street fashions in clothes, shoes, bags, underwear and jewellery they now also do Makeup! So as we browse for our beautiful new outfits we can also get make up to match, life couldn’t get any better could it? At reasonable prices and funky ‘new in’ colours I think Topshop have hit an all time high.

Catering for eyes, lips, skin and nails, they have chosen some wonderful colours and given extraordinary names to match. The naming of the makeup is very clever and unique, and creates a sense of feeling you know you will get when you wear it. For example, listing some of the eye shadows; Forgotten fields- a duo of rich green and lavender, or Midnight in Paris- a duo of stone and blue. Eye products range from shadows, to liner, to mascara, to crayon, to Kohl, and to glitter.

The lips again are named similarly, a hot red lipstick being called Dare devil. The lip products range from polish, to balm, to gloss, to glaze, to lips, to lipsticks (like a lip liner pencil). They’ve created some fun, unusual flavours such as ‘smoothie’ and ‘Rhubarb’.

The skin products come in a range of tints, bronzers, blushers and brighteners. All looking very professional- they have ‘skin glow’ which is a highlighter for the brows, cheek bones, eyes etc. I must say, some of the blushers are a little on the wild side for my taste but they are still exceptionally unique and very fashionable. A variety of ‘pinch’ a bright pink blush, to a ‘butterscotch’- a more natural looking cream to powder blush.

The nail varnishes are a must have. Such a range of colours! And all only priced at £5. They’ve really gone for it with the pastel shades which are really in right now. Again they’ve used a range of names from ‘Art school’ – a beautiful coral colour, to ‘Gone fishing’- a pastel mint, to ‘Gypsy night’- a multi glitter, which looks like it has a black base colour.

Topshop have also got some concession Make-up in store. It’s a company called SS10 Trend Collection. Its supplies metallic eye crayons, 3 part eye shadows, glitter pots and some unusual nail varnishes such as ‘Sunset’.

All these items are under £10, so if you want some bargain, and highly fashionable make up this summer, check out Topshop.

What do your eyes say about you?

http://www.quizazz.com/quiz.php/555191/What-do-your-eyes-say-about-you-What-guys-are-attracted-to-you/

When I asked a handful of people what was the first thing they noticed about a person, they all said their eyes. This is a well known fact and apparently we assume the personality of a person via their eye colour. I’m going to investigate what your eye colour says about you and how you can accentuate and compliment the colour with particular eye shadows. All coloured eyes suit the basics of charcoal, navy and white colouring as well as some sparkling gold’s or silvers for night wear. Highlighting the brow bone with a very light blue powder makes any eye colour pop out.

Firstly I’ll start with brown eye, the most common of all shades. Brown eyed people are seen to be trustworthy and loving; the darkness in the eye is warming and makes people feel secure. It can also be very sexy, especially if they are very dark. When applying shades of colour to compliment your brown beauties try and choose a variety of pinks or plums, brown or even a deep blue shade. Obviously the colour you choose will be based on your skin tones; lighter coloured skin tones heading more towards the pinks and plums, the darker your skin the more you will look towards peaches and browns.

Blue eyed people are seen to be innocent, even if they aren’t! Apparently blue eyes can make others happy and blued eyed people tend to be funnier. They are known to be pretty and youthful. To apply a shadow to draw attention to your pretty eyes try blues, purples and pinks. Also grey and blacks are a brilliant contrast on blue eyes, especially for sexy night wear.

Hazel or green eyes are very sexy, unusual and mysterious. Green eyes being well known for their sexiness and rarity. They are associated with the female, but I’m afraid they are also associated with jealously and slyness. Hazel eyes mean you are spontaneous; they tend to change colour so it means you are more fun and unpredictable. As these eye colours seem to reflect the colours around them your best trying to match your eye shadows to the colour of clothes your are wearing. Yet again though, make sure it matches your skin tone. Typical colours to match these eyes are greens, browns, plums and khaki.

You need to make sure you test colours out before you start applying. The best bet is to try and find cheap make up to try out and find your best suited colours.

Fake tan fanatic

Now I know a lot of you have tried fake tan or wear it on a regular basis, as do I. However we do always find it can become a chore and the odd streak occurs which gives the game away. I am going to give you some easy tips that’ll make sure your tan is natural looking and fabulous this summer, which in turn will make you feel fabulous!

After experimenting with many different types of fake tans, I have found the best and least streaky looking ones are usually a foam mousse type, for example; St Moriz instant fake tanning mousse. The bottle lasts a long time and is mess free with some plastic gloves. I found you can buy these for a good price on websites such as ebay.com, for as cheap as £3! That is just my personal favourite though; Doves summer glow body lotion is also very good and can be found for very low prices such as £4.99 in Superdrug stores. I do find from time to time even the most cheaply, non branded fake tans can be just as good when applied correctly. So here is how:
The most important part of your self- tanning experience is to make sure you exfoliate well before applying. If you don’t you WILL get patchy skin, not the look we’re going for hey ladies. When applying, start from the legs and work your way up your body, always trying to rub in your tan with circular motions. When you come to self-tanning your face, it is very important to make sure you tie up your hair so you don’t miss out any parts.

A top tip is to apply Vaseline to your nails and to your eye brows so they don’t discolour. And when you have finished application, if you have not used gloves, you should grab a damp wash cloth and rub it between your palms so they don’t turn out orange. Leave the tan to dry before applying clothes. I always fake tan before bed, means you really see the tan has worked when you wake up in the morning, and it also means you can wash it off before you start your day, because we all know it does have a distinct smell. And that is all you need to know to have a fantastic, natural looking tan this summer.

Another technique below:

Smile!

Julia Roberts, known for her fantastic smile. A smile is the second most noticeable feature about a person, after their eyes, so how do we make sure we keep ours in tact without paying out hundreds of pounds to the dentist.

Firstly, make sure you brush night and day! Also flossing at least twice a day not only cleans your teeth but also rids them of bad breath, peronditis, ginvitis, bad gums and plague formations. A good tip is not relying on mouthwash to illuminate your bad breath. The alcohol dries out your mouth, meaning you’ll smell minty and fresh for around half an hour but then after that it'll wear off leaving your breath smelling even worse.

Avoid foods and drinks which are more likely to stain your teeth, such as chocolate, red wine and coffee etc. Not only this though, make sure you stay away from fizzy drinks and other consumptions that contain a lot of acid and sugars. Of course we can eat these things in moderation, but when you do, make sure you brush afterwards! A handy tip is to drink through a straw to limit the contact with teeth.

Another tip for teeth whitening is to rub raw strawberries over them. Apparently there is an enzyme found in them which acts as a whitening agent- however make sure you brush after to make sure you rid of the natural sugars and acids.

Other products you can use to self whiten are:

• Baking soda- dipping your toothbrush into it and scrubbing!
• A combination of one teaspoon of salt and some lemon juice- brushing your teeth and rinsing.
• Or hydrogen peroxide- dipping your toothbrush into a capful and brushing, making sure you rinse afterwards.

None of these substances are going to taste very nice but they certainly will do the job! The key is to brush regularly especially after eating acids or sugars. Also, don’t smoke! This stains your teeth yellow in time…and you wont be mistaken for Julia with teeth like that now will you.
